MARCH 2022 ANNOUNCEMENT
We’re hosting our 2nd round of Huntsville Chess League. This a G/60 d5, USCF rated tournament. The entry fee is $30 and the prize fund is listed in the official rules.
Send your entry to Kristian Jordan via Venmo, and you’ll be added to the HCL discord. Parings are announced Monday morning, and games must be complete by Sunday night.
Suggested locations for playing include Huntsville Public Library, Madison Public Library, Brahan Springs rec center, or South Huntsville Library.
The thrill of competition is in the air and we wanted to let you know about a few locally available events. We also hope to see you tonight (Tuesday) at Mario’s Five Points!
Please note that a USCF membership will be required for all of these events and an ACF membership will be required for the Halloween Classic.

Open section: $575 in Prizes based on 30 entries, $150 1st, $75 2nd, Class Prizes X, A, B, C, D, E/below, Unr., each $50, *Above 30 players, additional prizes will be added and/or increased, Bonus prizes $50 + Mikhail Tal book is awarded to the player best exhibiting the “Spirit of Tal” in a submitted game from this event, A brand new chess clock prize is awarded for the top points by an under 12 age scholastic player.

Registration: 7:30am – 8:45am.
EF: $25 by check if received by 11/03, $30 cash at site.

Huntsville City Championship
We’re still finalizing the location, dates, and details surrounding the 2021 Huntsville city championship. We’ll notify everyone as soon as everything has been determined.
We plan to conduct a FREE unrated tournament on Tuesday, 7/13 starting promptly at 5:30pm. To expedite the event, please REGISTER NOW using the form on this blog post.
The time control will be 10 minutes (for each player) with a 5 second delay. There will be one big section, containing all players and will be 4 rounds. No memberships to the HCC or USCF will be required. The winner will receive a Starbucks gift card. Hope to see you there!
Our last free tournament was a smashing success and one we would like to repeat as soon as possible. We’ve had more and more new players attending each of the past few weeks, so this sounds like a great time to host another tournament.

The HCC is set to battle the Jacksonville Chess Club today at 12pm CST, which is a little over 4 hours away. Anyone is welcome to join, but only the top 4 boards will be counted. As of right now, that’s Om Badhe, Paul Mulqueen, Joel Friedman, and Tyler Wessling.

We are in need of volunteers to help with our Chess in a Cave event on November 2nd. This tournament is always a lot of fun. Possible duties include, helping with the concessions stand, helping with the catered meal, posting pairings, recording results, etc. This is our major fundraiser for the year and helps to keep the cost of membership low and the benefits high.
